Foreign nationals intending to visit Thailand can now apply for an online visa as the country rolls out its new electronic visa system globally.

Launched on January 1, 2025, the service is operational in 94 Thai embassies and consulates worldwide, providing travelers with a faster, safer, and more convenient way to obtain their visa.

The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially launched the system on December 17, 2024, marking a significant milestone in the modernization of the country’s visa application process. Travelers will be able to present an electronic copy of their visa during airport check-in, eliminating the need for traditional visa stickers.

He explained that the system was first introduced in Beijing, China, in February 2019, and expanded to issuing visas without physical stickers in September 2021.

Starting from January, it will be accessible worldwide.

Official Endorsement

Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa highlighted this initiative's role in boosting Thailand’s appeal to international visitors. By reducing administrative barriers, the electronic visa system aims to attract tourists, business travelers, investors, and students.

“This streamlined process will improve Thailand’s competitiveness and strengthen its position as a regional and global connectivity hub,” said Maris.

The system incorporates advanced technology and identity verification measures to protect applicants' personal data and ensure secure processing. It is also designed to support multiple visa categories, including student and work visas.

Visa Exemptions Remain Unaffected

For travelers from the 93 countries or territories already benefiting from visa exemptions for stays of up to 60 days, e-visas will still be exempted.
